FAILING TO SUCCEED

1 CORINTHIANS  15:9

STUDY||EXODUS 2:10-15

The scripture does not just leave us with the success stories of  heroes of faith. In it was also the failures of these great people. The bible didn’t just record the perfection of the saints, it also recorded the imperfections of the people greatly used by God. God understands that the failures of men are also part of the requirement for success.

I haven’t found one man or woman that succeeded who have not failed before, not one! Your failure is one of the reason you will succeed. Paul a murderer, Esther, a Slave, Gideon, a coward, Peter, a backslider, you will not appreciate the value of success if you have not failed.

However, successful people are not men who never failed, but men who failed but never gave up but pressed on until they succeed. God is able to use your failure as a stepping stone for your success. Your weaknesses and failure are part of the process for a successful life.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus turn all my failures to successes.

True humility is the gateway to wealth and honour.  God loves the humble but He resists the proud. Humility is one of the characteristics of the Trinity. The easiest way to win the heart of God is to put on humility. God is attracted to the humble.

Col 3:12: Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.

However, today, hypocrisy has replaced humility. Eye service is the order among believers. This is false humility. True humility comes from the heart. True humility is reverencing God in true holiness and honouring others.

Phil 2:3: Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Some people are humble until they receive power, become wealthy or in a position of authority. True humility is as a result of the working power of the Holy Spirit within a believer. Humility is preferring others than yourself. It is having power but not using it all the time. It is showing mercy to others.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus give me the Spirit of humility.

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

Pride is one of the most dangerous vices the enemy use against believers. Many mighty men and women have fallen because of pride. Great leaders have been humiliated and disgraced just because of pride. Many anointed man and women of God have fallen from grace because of pride. If you must walk with God and be successful you must deal with pride.

God himself resist the proud. His Spirit, is nature and character is totally against the proud. He cannot stand the proud. God ensures that the proud never gets to the top. He ensure they are destroyed before their time. Could it be that the reason you are not making progress is because of pride.

Proverbs 15:25The Lord will destroy the house of the proud, but He will establish the boundary of the widow.

Pride is parading yourself as better than others. It is ascribing your success to your effort instead of ascribing it to God. It’s is exalting yourself more than it’s due. It is thinking you can do without God, pride starts from the heart. A good example is Lucifer. He was thrown down because of pride.

Beware of pride. Allow the spirit of humility work in you. Don’t allow your achievements, beauty, power or wealth gets into your head. Always ascribe to God all that you are and you have.

PRAYER

Lord put in me the Spirit of humility, remove every element of pride in me totally.

LUKE 6:26

Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets

STUDY||JOHN 7:1-13

Before you aspire to be great in life you must settle it in your heart that criticism will come. If you are nobody people won’t care about you but the moment you become relevant people will hate you, insult you and falsely accuse you. You will never be great focusing on the praise or insult of people.

As I grow and observe the lives of great men and women in all spheres of life. I discovered that people who respond to hater’s comments and fan’s praise are always distracted and often find themselves in deeper mess. Jesus in the passage above was been praised by some and condemned by others, yet Jesus never responds to any of them.

In your journey to greatness, never give attention to these two sets of people. Focus on your assignment and calling. Some peoples calling is to criticize, you can’t stop them from pursuing their assignment but don’t let them stop you either. 

Forge ahead with every sense of purpose and responsibility to serve your generation.

You cannot please all men, as long as you please God, it is alright.

Gifts are given to men by God for the expansion of His kingdom and for the blessing of men. Gifts have transformed our world and the way we think. The gifts music, public speaking, acting, architecture, invention and lost more have blessed our lives, prospered men and inspire others.

God gave men both natural and spiritual gifts, I must say, spiritual gifts are far more valuable and superior to natural gifts. Spiritual gifts include healing, faith, miracles, prophecy, ability to see the invisible and do the impossible. Spiritual gifts are powerful and God is also more willing to give you than you’re willing to receive.

Most importantly, for your gifts to find expression you must stir it up. To stir your gift is to convert the potential anointing in you to kinetic usable energy. One of the ways you stir up your gifts is by fervent prayer and exercising it. If you perceive you have the gift of healing, don’t wait, start by praying and laying hands on the sick.

Practice puts your gifts to work. Don’t allow anyone to despise it. Put your gift to work, engage God’s grace upon your life and leave the consequences to God.

JOHN 10: 15

It is not news that the secret to living is dying. This is more true for leaders. You cannot be a leader if you are not ready to die. Leaders lay down their lives for the sake of others. This is the peak of leadership responsibility. 

"Selfishness is the singular reason many leaders are not fulfilling destiny."

People cannot trust you with their lives until they see that you are willing to lay down your life for theirs. Not people taking it by force (John 10:18) but you willingly laying it down for them. Jesus the greatest leader who ever walked on earth established this deep leadership principle for us to follow.

Jesus was willing and indeed died for His followers and because of this, the disciple joyfully died to protect and expand the vision of Jesus. A leader must be ready to sacrifice all he/she has for the blessedness of his people. You must die to self-aggrandizement and ambitions.

However it is the love for the people that will inspire and compel you to die. How much you love your followers will determine how far you are willing to go for them. Without loving the people you are leading you cannot make the ultimate sacrifice of dying for them.

REFLECTION

Self-sacrifice is the hallmark of great leaders.

“You can’t change the past. Whatever has happened in your life so far—both good and bad—cannot be altered, and all the decisions and events that have made you what you are today are indelibly inscribed in the story of your life. But with God’s help you can change the future” The words above are the priceless words of Billy Graham.

Do you know someone who became a failure today because of an incident that happened thirty years ago? There are people who never rise again in life just because their business failed years ago, they got laid off from their jobs decades ago and their wives walk away sometimes ago.

In the same vein, there are people who never moved from the comfort of a success they achieved ten years ago. Whether you failed or succeeded in the past, God have a better future for you.

Never allow your past successes or failures to deny you of experiencing the great future that God have for you. Strive to move forward even in the face of adversity. Your future is nothing like your past.

God is able to use your past mistakes to drive you to your place of greatness. Believing His promises gives hope and faith to move forward.

KEY 19: KEY OF REVELATION

GALATIANS 2:2

And I went up by revelation and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain.

STUDY||EPHESIAN 1:15-22

Men are enthroned in life by revelation not by assumption. It takes the power of revelation to go up. The reason people are not stable and live a life of trial by error is because they are not led by revelation. In God’s kingdom we reign by the amount of revelation in your custody.

The only difference between Paul and other apostle is the level of mystery that was revealed to him. Revelation comes when your eyes of understanding are opened to see the hidden glory and inheritance in Jesus.

It is when you know the thought and the will of God concerning a matter. It takes seeing to possess in this kingdom.

To be great you must strive for revelation. You must seek to see and understand the hidden wisdom of God.

It takes deep hunger and thirst for God before you can encounter rhema.  It is the agency of the Spirit that brings revelation.

Note that you can’t attain greatness by using one or two of these keys alone. You need to apply all these keys and more with wisdom to access greatness in life.  May the Lord make you great in Jesus name.

REFLECTION
Revelation is the ladder for greatness.

KEY 18: KEY OF FAITH

HEBREWS 11:3

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

STUDY||HEBREWS 11:1-11

Faith is a vital agency of greatness. Without faith it is impossible to transact business with the God of greatness. The great characters in the bible became great by faith. Without faith it is impossible to obtain anything from God.

Faith is the conviction and persuasion that come from your understanding of God’s word based on His tack record. The journey of life will require an anchor of faith and absolute dependence in God for you to break forth.

Faith is believing in the word of God despite the opposing situations and circumstances.
Life will fight and reject your greatness, it takes the shield of faith to resist the attacks of the enemy (Eph 6:16).

It takes faith to walk in wisdom and understanding (Heb 11:3). It takes faith to walk in the supernatural.  Your faith must be anchored in Christ, not in your Uncle, job, government or any man.

KEY 17: THE KEY OF PATIENCE

HEBREWS 6:12

That you do not become sluggish but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

STUDY||HEBREWS 11:8-16

A story was told of a believer who went to see his pastor. He explained to the pastor that he was always in haste and that he needs the spirit of patience. The pastor asked him “when do you want it”, Now! He Reply sharply. The pastor laughed. 

We have a generation who knows nothing about the virtue of patience. This is a microwave age where results are “sharp sharp”. 

I also call this the key of understanding times and seasons. Greatness is like a seed, it takes time and process before it becomes a tree. 

You must be patient if your name must be written on the sand of history. 

It took Noah 120 years to build the Ark, Moses 80 years to fulfil his ministry, David about 15 years to became king from when he was anointed.  It took Jesus 30 years to prepare for a 3-year ministry. 

True greatness takes time, it takes process, without giving up on what you are doing. 

Greatness will require your endurance, perseverance and persistence. 

It may not come the time you want but if you keep at it, one day greatness will show up at your door step.

Time is the most valuable resource available to man because it can’t be reproduced or reversed. Your purpose and success can only be achieved within a time frame. 

God has given everyone the same quantity of time every day. It is what you make out of the 24-hour that makes the difference. 

When you lost money, house, cars, business, relationships or any resources you can get them back but when you lose time, you can’t get it back. 

Today you are the eldest you’ve ever been and the youngest you will ever be. If you have lost time don’t be crippled by the feeling rather turn it into experience. Longetivity is not man’s objectivity, it is productivity. 

You don’t waste time, you waste life and resources, time is life as we say. To know the value of a year, ask a student who had extra year. To value seconds ask a man who escape an accident in seconds. To know the value of milli-seconds, ask an Olympian who lost a gold medal by six-tenth of a second. 

Invest your time in things that will increase and move you towards greatness. Investing your time in things outside your purpose is called time-wasting.

Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Value is a universal currency you can engage to buy greatness. Greatness, success and prosperity always answers to value. Myles Munroe said don’t seek to be a person of success, seek to be a person of value.

Value is the amount of worth you bring to the society.  When you become a valuable person, your life attracts greatness.

Value speaks of the amount of creativity, innovation, grace, anointing you contribute to solve problems. It could be in ministry, business or society.

If you are not solving any problem, you are not adding any value. Create a life that add value to people.

Value is not just in What you do but also in how you do it. A great idea that lack excellent execution will not add much value to people.

People will not hesitate to make a king out of someone who adds value to them. This was witnessed in the ministry of Jesus. The people of Israel wanted to make Jesus king because of the value he added into their life.

A track record of consistent value with one day bring you into a position of greatness.

CONFESSION
I become a person of value, everywhere I go, I bring meaningful solutions to people’s problem. I become an asset to my company, church and nation in Jesus name.

KEY 13: THE KEY OF WISDOM

JAMES 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

STUDY||PROVERBS 4:1-11

The scripture in several places commanded believers not to pursue money, gold or fame, rather to pursue wisdom. The bible described wisdom as the principal thing. This means that wisdom is a compulsory course in the school of greatness. Absence of wisdom means presence of foolishness and greatness can never be attained by fools.

Wisdom is the right application of knowledge, whether it be spiritual or natural. Having wisdom starts from pursuing the right knowledge, especially the knowledge of Christ. There is a wisdom of the world but there is another hidden wisdom that’s superior to that of the world, this is the kind of wisdom that guarantees greatness.

1 Cor 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,

This kind of wisdom brings glory upon you. You cannot stumble on this kind of wisdom, you have to seek earnestly for it because it is hidden. But once you find it, you will command greatness. Wise men always seek to know more because they understood that wisdom is knowledge and power.

PRAYER

Father, give me the hidden wisdom from above in Jesus name. Amen!

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Greatness is an expensive commodity that requires a price in exchange. Nothing important comes cheap not even salvation. In the case of salvation Jesus paid the highest price of death. Nothing great comes free.

To attain greatness, you must be willing to pay the price. Many people desire to become great, but they are not willing to pay any price. Paying the price for greatness is not an easy road to trek, it requires, endurance, hardship, patience, risk, and loneliness.

Every platform of greatness comes with a price tag on it.

Jesus- God became flesh, when he saw the extent of the suffering He must go through to become the savior of the world almost changed His mind. But he focused on the glory of the greatness to be attained.

When paying the price, you must not focus on the suffering you are going through now, focus rather on the glory to be revealed ahead.

Father please give me the grace to pay the price for greatness.

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven:

One of the wisdoms for greatness is the ability to identify what is most important and urgent among many other important things-this is called priority. 

Many people become failures and miserable in life because they couldn’t differentiate between what is good from what is right. Therefore, they mismanage their scarce resources. 

Right priority helps you to know what you should give attention to per time. To know your priority right now all you need to do is to check what you spend your money on, what you spend your time doing, and what you occupy your mind with. 

Focusing on parties when you are supposed to face your studies will bring you to rags.

To attain greatness, you must prioritize your time, relationship, resources, values and thoughts. 

Prioritization brings order into your life. It prevents wastage of your time and resources while you improve your productivity and live a maximized life. Bring order to your life by doing now what is most important and most urgent. Have the future in mind always.

Father help me by your Spirit of wisdom to put my life in order.

KEY 10: THE KEY OF DILIGENCE

ROMANS 12:11

Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord

STUDY||1KINGS 11:28-32

This is a master key in the school of greatness. Diligence is a careful and thorough pursuit of a goal with determination and attentiveness. You can never excel at anything you are not diligent at. It takes hard-work to get to the peak of your career, business or ministry.

Prov 22:29:Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

The opposite of diligence is laziness. Many believers with great destinies are wallowing in failure today because they are too lazy to pray, study, work, and do what is necessary for success. A lazy fellow has only one destiny-poverty. 

Prov 12:24; Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.

Dominion comes with great responsibility, only those who are diligent can cope with its demand. Get to work now, it is never too late to get serious with your life. God’s promise is eternal, but your laziness can make it ineffective in your life.  

Prov 10:4 Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.

Work hard, study hard, pray hard, give hard. Be hard in all you do.

KEY 9: THE KEY OF RELENTLESS SERVICE

2 CORINTHIANS 12:15

And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.

STUDY||MATTHEW 20:20-28

The shortest road to greatness is service. There are many believers who desire greatness but are not ready to serve. If you are too big to serve you are too small to lead. 

Jesus in the text above was attempting to change the narrative of greatness. He taught His disciple this powerful principle of greatness.

Greatness is not measured in how many people serving you, it is measured in how many people you are serving. It is time to roll up your sleeve and serve relentlessly even in little responsibilities. 

It takes a servant heart to attain greatness. Jesus did not just teach the disciples, He showed them an example by washing their feet.

Matt 18:4: Therefore, whoever humbles  like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

It takes the spirit of humility to serve. Let go of your pride and serve in the capacity that God has given you the grace to serve. 

Serve in your local church, volunteer in an NGO, don’t seek money first, seek to serve and reward will follow. In serving you must serve excellently, diligently and wholeheartedly.

Father I receive the grace to serve you and humanity in my generation in Jesus name.

KEY 8: THE KEY OF INESTIMABLE RELATIONSHIP

PROVERBS 18:24:

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

STUDY||2SAMUEL 9:1-13

Success in life is tied to the quality of relationship you have. Your cycle of friends determines the degree of your influence. A popular quote states that “your network creates your net worth”. You will not be able to do much if you don’t put premium on valuable relationship.

As a believer you are to love all men, but you must choose your friends and associate. You cannot relate with everybody at the same level. Do a sensor of all your inner cycle, ask yourself, how many of them are bringing positive value to your life. Most importantly, ask yourself, what level of value are you bringing to other people’s lives.

Valuable relationship is costly, keeping them is costlier. Invest your time, resources, knowledge and skill to relationship that are bringing values to you. Be committed to respecting, loving and valuing the people in your life. It is not about having many friends, how many of them are bringing value into your life.

Surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you. Surround yourself with people who are better than you and are not intimidated with your rising.

Father bring valuable relationship into my life who will usher me into greatness.

KEY 7: KEY OF ADEQUATE PREPARATION

LUKE 1:80

So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

STUDY||MATTHEW 4:1-11

You have heard it said that poor preparation precedes poor performance, so also, proper preparation precedes great performance. Preparation is the key to performance. No athlete goes to the Olympic without proper preparation. No matter how gifted or anointed you are, you cannot skip the stage of preparation and expect to be great.

 Many believers receive great promises and prophetic words from God of how great their future will be only to retire to their beds waiting for manifestation. Preparation is what guarantee manifestation. God will not use an unprepared person. Success is birth when opportunity meets preparation.

God prepared Moses in the wilderness for forty years, Joseph was prepared in Potiphar’s house and in the wilderness, David was prepared in the back side of the wilderness, Elisha prepared by serving Elisha, Jesus prepared for thirty years for a three years ministry. You will not find a man greatly used by God who was not adequately prepared.

Preparing for a great future may require you to take a degree, a course, learn a skill, serve in an NGO, pray or fast more, study more and the likes.

REFLECTION

You cannot feature in a future you did not prepared for.

KEY 6: THE KEY OF PASSION

1 CORINTHIANS 9:16

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

STUDY||JOHN 2:13-21

Passion is a strong emotion that is attached to something you do. Passion is that strong enthusiasm associated with what you love to do. You can hardly succeed at anything you are not passionate about. Greatness requires that your spirit become fired up in your chosen endeavour.

it is not enough to do what love, you must love what you do at the same time. Passion creates the necessary fuel you need to catapult your game to the peak. Without passion people will not believe in whatever you do. Passion is not pride, it is been zealous without apology in the pursuit of your purpose.

Jesus in the text about was seen in a strange attitude turning the table of money-changers in the temple and beating people up with whips. I can imagine Jesus driving them out with ferocity and fury, but this is what I call passion. It takes passion for your business for you to be outstanding in life.

A life without passion is a life without life and excitement.

REFLECTION

Find your purpose and become zealous for it.

KEY 5: THE KEY OF CLEAR VISION

PROVERBS 29:18

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Vision is one of the powerful keys that must be used to unluck greatness. Without this key you cannot do much in life, in fact, without it destruction is inevitable. Vision is a clear picture of the future as revealed by the Spirit. It is the image of your desired future.

The enemy of vision is eyes. Vision is seeing what can be achieved but is yet to be achieved, what you can be but you’re yet to become, where you can go but you haven’t gone. It sees the limitless possibilities that cannot be seen by the physical sight. The eagle’s greatness is attributed to the power of vision it possessed.

The power of vision imposes the discipline to pursue and achieve greatness on you. It impacts endurance and patience in you. It helps you creates restrain and principles around your life that ensure you don’t go astray. What is your vision in life? What possibilities can you see in your mind? What is that one thing you must achieve before you leave the world?

Vision is not just what you design on your own, it comes as a result of the understanding of your purpose and assignment on earth. Vision is not the same thing as ambitions.

KEY 4: THE KEY OF PURPOSE

JEREMIAH 1:5

 "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations."

Success may give you money but only purpose gives you meaning in life. True greatness can never be achieved outside your purpose. To be great you must discover your purpose in life. The law of purpose states that everything on earth is created with an original intention and for specific intention.

A life without purpose will be abused, misused and underused. If you are created to be an athlete, you can never be great being a lawyer. If your purpose is in ministry you can never excel as a businessperson. Discovering and staying in your purpose is what unveils the greatness in you. Greatness in hidden in your purpose.

Purpose is God’s original intention for creating you, you are not an accident of creation. It is not something you design, you can only discover and deploy it. The key of purpose gives you access to fulfilment in life.

It is in your purpose that your gifts, talents, abilities and potentials can find relevant and meaningful expression. You are able to maximize resources and relationships when you are walking in your purpose, without all which greatness is impossible.
